It’s a quick post today, just wanting to chat about putting some Psyllium into your pup’s diet.
Psyllium is a form of fibre made from the husk of the Plantago orato plant’s seed. It commonly goes by the name ispaghula.
If your furry friend has been a little constipated or has been on some medication and the stools have become too hard to pass, by sprinkling half a teaspoon onto their dinner is an excellent way to get a great source of fibre into their diet and will soften stools for passing. Add some, even to your own diet.
Some other benefits of psyllium:
- Good for heart health
- Lowers blood sugar levels
- Aids intestinal health
- Can aid in weight maintenance
- Psyllium is packed full of soluble fibre
I’ve created a nutritious dog smoothie recipe that the pups absolutely loved, its a great way to add some psyllium into your dog’s diet.
Recipe:
BLUEBERRY GOAT SMOOTHIE FOR DOGS
– makes enough for x 3 dogs (300 ml each)
Ingredients:
1 tsp ground cinnamon
180 g frozen blueberries
1Tbsp peanut butter
1 Tbsp ground flaxseeds
1 Tbsp psyllium
900ml goats milk ( I drank 100ml – delicious!)
Handful of strawberries, dried blueberries, 1 Tbsp hemp seeds and mint to garnish 😉 (optional)
Method:
Blend all ingredients together, excluding the strawberries, hemp seeds and mint. I used my thermomix to blend smoothie.
