Holiday Iced Treats for Pups

I am writing this post with my dogs by my side sitting by the wood fire that has just been lit and yes, it is the 30th of December, the second last day of 2017 and we need a fire to keep warm.  This is the middle of summer!!

It’s that funny week in between crazy Christmas, where we celebrated to almost combustion, and New Year: the start of new beginnings.  For me,  it’s always a time of decluttering and each year since I have been living on the Mornington Peninsula, I feel a little more organised.

Even though we are experiencing arctic temperatures, I had promised the pups some iced treats.  Here is an easy one to prepare:

Bone Broth & Chia Seeds – with Goji Berries.

Ingredients:

1 Litre stock – chicken/beef/vegetable

1 Tbsp white or black chia seeds (optional)

1 Tbsp goji berries (optional)

Method:

Mix all the ingredients together and freeze in preferred ice trays until frozen.

Goji berries (wolfberries) are optional.  However, I think they are really worthy of inclusion.  I used to add them to baked dog treats for the puppers, but they would always burn and go bitter in the cooking process.  Adding them to an iced treat is a fabulous and delicious way to include these little plump berries of super goodness in your pup’s diet.

Goji Goodness:

  • Packed with antioxidants
  • High in beta-carotene, zinc, iron, Vit A/C/E
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Improves heart health
  • Prevents eye disease
  • Improves brain function

Well, I’m off to stoke the fire and think about making a soup to see in the new year.  What are your plans?

Wishing you all a very happy and safe 2018
