I have a fruit bowl full of ripe bananas (well x 3)! due to this late run of stunningly warm weather…AND A freezer full of them ready for making smoothies.
Thats when I thought, I’ll make the dogs some doggie banana bread – NOT the sugary kind – the dog friendly kind.
I also thought it would be nice to top it with some seeds. I’ve fallen for the delicious humble hemp seeds, I’m enjoying them every morning on my porridge and scattered as a topper on salads.
Hemp surely is one of the most eco friendly substance around. It can make oodles of eco useful products like medicine, bioplastic, health food, bedding, clothing, body care products, cleaning products, dog collars, dog bedding just to name a few.
Hemp Seeds:
- High in Omega 3
- Contain GLA – [Gamma Linolenic Acid] an Omega 6 fatty acid – essential fatty acid plays a crucial role in general health
- Promotes brain health
- Aids digestive health
- Encourages cellular growth in coat/skin/nails
You don’t need to worry about you or your furry friend overdosing or getting high. Hemp Seeds have no psychoactive ingredients. It contains a trace amount of naturally occurring tetrahydrocannabinoids (THC). They are perfectly safe to eat and are highly nutritious.
If you haven’t tried them, they have a pleasing nutty taste; rather like a cross between a sunflower seed and a pine nut in flavour. And yep, they are jam packed with goodness and are have great health benefits for our furry friends too.
I threw this One-bowl-dog-friendly banana bread recipe together. Super quick, super easy and really delicious.
Badass Bananas:
- High in Potassium
- High in Magnesium
- High in Vit C, B6, fibre, Biotin & Copper
Only took a few minutes to mix together with a hand blender.
I also added a few store bought organic watermelon seeds, that have been soaked and stripped of their hard black shells, which makes them easy to digest. I would be mindful of a dog consuming a large quantity of the fresh black seeds of the watermelon, as this outer shell could cause intestinal blockage, a few black seeds gulped won’t cause any harm.
