Dog Muesli Bars

What’s for breakfast I hear you ask?  Not for you, but for the fur kids!!

I see there are a few products on the market in the form of muesli for dogs. To be sprinkled on their food to entice fussy eaters to gobble down their meal.

That got me thinking about making a muesli bar for dogs that you could make as a healthy snack alternative for a dog that has been doing a lot of intensive exercise and you are after a treat high in energy.

I’m about to hop on a plane and wanted to use up ingredients that could be used to make something safe and healthy for dogs.

Combos and flavours are unlimited really.  Add ingredients to make coats shiny and skin healthy like flax seeds, ginger to aid digestion, chia or hemp seeds for an excellent source of omega 3.

As its the Easter long weekend I’ve created a ‘dog friendly’ chocolate muesli bar using carob.
NEVER EVER give your dog ANY human chocolate, as chocolate is toxic to dogs.

Here is the recipe for a no bake, quick and really easy dog muesli bar.

DOG MUESLI BAR

You will need a baking tray lined with baking paper.

Makes: 8 – 10 bars, or more if you slice into squares.

INGREDIENTS:

75 g carob buttons, melted

100 g coconut oil, melted

1 Tbsp peanut butter

2 cups of rice bubbles (95g)

2 cups of pop corn (20g)

2 cups of puffed corn (55g)

1 Tbsp chia seeds

2 Tbsp pipetas

1 Tbsp Goji berries

50g dried blueberries

METHOD:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the first three ingredients and stir with a metal spoon until combined.

Add the remaining ingredients and keep stirring until liquid has evenly covered all the the dry ingredients.

Spoon into the prepared baking dish, press down firmly and chill for 40 minutes, then remove and cut into bars or  squares.

Wishing you are your fur babies a very happy Easter break and I look forward to catching up on my return.
